The Pitfalls of Success
Video Script
CONCEPT NOTE:
Shopmatic offers the opportunity to gain business success, but with this success come certain problems. Business owners will find that things bloom quickly thanks to the ecosystem they gain, and the disadvantages include the fame they achieve. This will be executed in video format and was pitched as a series with multiple comic scenarios exploring the perils of success.
CENTRAL CHARACTER: The video focuses on a woman who has started a business based on her baking skills and struggles under the weight of her success.
SCRIPT:
NARRATIVE
We open on a woman peering through a window between the blinds.
She steels herself and she along with a group of men, heads to the door.
The men surround her, and as they walk down the pathway, they are mobbed by people.
The volume on their screaming turns down, and her voiceover comes on.
The video changes to her sitting at a table in a café as she dramatically explains the problems she faces.
Someone walks over and puts down a tray of cupcakes. She offers them to the video crew filming her.
They step in and try them out, and they make noises of happiness. The camera drops to the floor, and the cameraman can be seen lunging at her in a frame that is now sideways and from the angle of the floor.
He drops to one knee and proposes marriage to her. She screams, and the camera gets kicked in the scuffle as her bodyguards drag him off.
DIALOGUE / VISUALS
She says, ‘They’re out there. I can hear them!’
She turns to the camera. ‘Let’s do this!’
They scream her name, ‘Anne! I love your cupcakes!’ ‘Sign my face!’ ‘I named my baby after your Rainbow cupcake!’ The baby is dressed in rainbow shades.
‘I knew my baking was amazzzing! But I never knew I had the power to make people so passionate!’
‘Nobody told me what it’s like to be so successful. You wouldn’t believe the things I’ve seen. Sometimes, I feel like I’m more famous than a certain baby, a Nawabi baby!’
‘I wish I had never been cursed with the gift of baking!’
‘Would you like some?’
Another man pounds on the window behind him, ‘Those cupcakes are mine!’
